New Zealand is made of magic

Oh, we like touring. We really do. It's a fun lifestyle and I think we'd all gladly quit our day jobs to pursue it, but touring requires stamina. We didn't pace ourselves as it was a short run, just five days, but after five days of no more than four hours sleep, all night drinking and shows, everyone was feeling a little tetchy when we saw them off at the airport and onto the plane back to Melbourne.

I should introduce us. Sean M. Whelan and The Mime Set is a six piece spoken word/music collaboration based in Melbourne, Australia.

The Cast of Characters:

Principals

Sean M. Whelan - sweet cowboy, genius poet, hopeless romantic and obsessive photographer

Andrew Watson - monkey-fixated guitar/violin manipulator and obsessive photographer

Jon Shannon - wry, uber-talented multi-instrumentalist, a cool head but a bad passenger

Justin Avery - witty, alt.cowboy multi-instrumental and media super-flirt

Chris Chapple - funny, erudite, very charming drummer and double-panted swimmer

Me (Ms. Sam) - cranky instigator, singer/baby poet and baggage douche

Featured Players

Emilie Zoey Baker - cowgirl obsessed 'Cock warmer and poet made of magic

The Resistance (Andrew, Richard and Mike) - take a history (!) teaching/guitar-flailing total sweetheart, a supremely chilled bassplayer and a professional drum slut/babe-magnet and soundtrack with Husker Du.

Hinemoana Baker - astonishing Paekakariki-based poet/musician and wonder host

Tyree Robertson (aka Aunty Sue) - a heart as huge as her voice and a most excellent store of creative invective

Jess Hortop - dervish instigator of Paekakariki Fringe what we played at and our other wonder host with possibly the best kitchen sink view ever.

Isn't it incredibly modern to have myspace links for everyone. I wonder what will happen in five years time when this site is archived in the Wayback Machine and all the links are dead. Will we exist?

The Setting

Wellington, NZ - like a very hilly Fitzroy with good coffee, very cool bars (thankyou Mighty Mighty, Matterhorn, The Pit), good, cheap Malaysian and Indian food (thankyou Satay Kingdom) and some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Paekakariki, NZ - ...or "Pie Cock" as it's known to locals, a beautiful town for a swim, a BBQ, a gig in a gorgeous old hall... or a lifetime of creative endeavours. Sigh.

So, I've set the scene... next - the tall tales.
